How we pick shit

Every night, an automated agent goes looking for what is happening this week in each of our cities — venue calendars, ticketing pages, promoter posts, listings we already trust. It writes each one up with the date, the venue, the neighborhood, the price and a link where you can actually buy a ticket.

Rules it has to follow: no event without a real ticket or RSVP link, no duplicates, no dead links, and no venues we've blocked. Anything it can't verify gets skipped and logged instead of guessed at.

People submit events too. Those land in the same queue and get held to the same rules.

Featured means we think it clears the interestingness bar: a jaded local who goes out constantly would still bother going. Specific, strange, one-off, or genuinely notable beats generic-any-night-of-the-week every time.

There is no fixed number of featured events per city. If a week is thin, few things get featured. If a week is loaded, plenty do. We would rather show you four things worth your night than pad the page.

Some writing on this site — the weekly roundups in particular — is drafted with AI assistance, working from the real event data described above. The facts (venue, date, price, link) come from the listings, not from a model making things up.

Every post is read and edited by David before it publishes. Nothing goes live without a human deciding it should. Drafts sit unpublished until he approves them, and a post is marked as AI-assisted in our system so we can always tell you which is which.

What AI does not do here: it does not decide what gets published, it does not write in anyone else's voice, and it does not invent quotes, reviews or events.

You cannot buy a listing, a feature slot, or a nice sentence. Nobody has ever paid to be on this site, and if that ever changes — a sponsorship, an ad, an affiliate link — it will be labelled as such on the page it appears on.
